Surgical Procedures

We routinely perform a wide range of surgical procedures at Central Texas Veterinary Ophthalmology. These include:

  • Phakoemulsification to remove cataracts with lens replacement
  • Removal of dislocated lenses to treat glaucoma
  • Repair of corneal injuries and lacerations
  • Corneal grafting for corneal ulcers and corneal dystrophies
  • Drainage implant and diode laser surgery for glaucoma
  • Laser surgery or microsurgical removal for eye and eyelid tumors
  • Surgery to correct eyelid deformities, abnormalities and injuries
  • Surgery to increase tear production in animals with “dry-eye”
  • Retinal detachment surgery
  • Cryosurgery and electrolysis for abnormal, damaging eyelid hairs

Most ophthalmic microsurgery requires high magnification (using an operating microscope) and very delicate surgical instrumentation. Some of our procedures (particularly cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery and retinal detachment surgery) require that we use the same technology designed for these procedures in people.
